Smallwood claims that Rupert Perry, EMI's then managing director, came up with the idea that Eddie could become a more active part of the band's concerts, originally portrayed by Smallwood himself, wearing an Eddie mask and a leather jacket. Surmising that the creature had "great visual continuity," Smallwood decided it would be used for all of the band's artwork. Originally created as an idea for a punk record (which Riggs states in the 12 Wasted Years documentary was based on an alleged Japanese soldier's skull stuck to an American tank), the band had extra hair added to the illustration, making it more suitable to their style of music, and transferred the name from the original masks they used onstage. Once Iron Maiden had secured a record contract with EMI, the band's manager Rod Smallwood decided that the band needed "that one figure who utterly stamped his presence and image on the band in a way that was obvious enough to make a good album cover." After seeing some of his artwork on a Max Middleton poster, Smallwood set up a meeting with Derek Riggs and asked to see some of his other illustrations, in the midst of which was the band's first album cover. 'Not another fucking hat! '" " The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg" backdrop, featuring Eddie, during The Final Frontier World Tour It's your fifth birthday, and we've got a very special surprise for you.' 'Oh no,' says Eddie. 'Son,' he says, 'today's a very special day. So five years go by, and there's Eddie the 'Ead, as his parents have called him, sitting on the mantelpiece, when in walks his dad. 'Bring him back in five years time, and we'll probably have a body for him'. "A wife had a baby, but it was born with only a head and no body. According to guitarist Dave Murray the name was also inspired by an old joke: The band's bassist and founding member Steve Harris states that the name "Eddie" comes from the original mask being referred to as "The Head", which sounded like "Ead" in the band members' London accent. After this initial incarnation, Beazley constructed a larger mask out of fibreglass, equipped with flashing eyes and the ability to release red smoke from its mouth. At the end of their live set, during the "Iron Maiden" song, a fish tank pump was used to squirt fake blood out of the mask's mouth, which typically covered their then-drummer Doug Sampson. According to Beazley, the original mask was a papier-mâché mould of his own face, which was then used in the band's backdrop, consisting of lights and the band's logo. The first version of Eddie was a mask made by an art student who was friends with Dave "Lights" Beazley, then in charge of lighting, pyrotechnics and other effects for Iron Maiden's live show. Although he is occasionally described as "zombie-like" in the press, Eddie assumes a different guise relating to the themes of individual albums and their corresponding world tours, and has appeared as a cyborg, an Egyptian mummy and a lobotomised mental patient, amongst others. Originally a papier-mâché mask used in Iron Maiden's stage backdrop, the band transferred the name "Eddie" from the mask to an illustration by Derek Riggs, which was used as the band's debut album cover. On top of this, Eddie features in all of the band's concerts, as well as in the first-person shooter video game, Ed Hunter, the mobile game, Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast and a pinball game with the same name in 2018. He is a perennial fixture of the group's artwork, appearing in all of their album covers (as well as most of their singles) and in their merchandise, which includes T-shirts, posters and action figures. So, enjoy these amazingly ghoul’d (and boo’d) ghost jokes on us. Right now, though, we’re here for the ghost jokes. And, with Halloween always creeping closer, we’re ready to laugh at Halloween’s expense. All attempts at fun and humor are greatly appreciated. Whether we’re straight-up laughing or doing a bit of eye-rolling, it doesn’t matter to us. We thought about it for a while and here’s how we decided to tell the difference: If you laugh at a joke, it’s good and if you laugh or smile, but roll your eyes then it’s a “bad joke.” Groundbreaking, isn’t it? Everyone loves a good joke… even if that joke is technically “bad.” What’s the difference between a good joke and a bad joke? Honestly, it often depends on who’s telling the joke or who is listening. The Power-Trialysis™ Catheter family is made up of 12 and 13 Fr triple-lumen, short-term dialysis catheters that come in various lengths and kit configurations.Īll Power-Trialysis™ Catheters are offered in standard kits as well as maximal barrier precaution trays. Central line catheter (of which there are several types and sizes, including triple-lumen, double-lumen, and large bore single-lumen) In addition, the operator will require a sterile gown, cap, gloves, sterile gauze, sterile saline, face mask, and a sterile cleansing solution such as chlorhexidine. Having a central line integrated within an acute dialysis catheter may reduce clinician exposure with fewer dressings to maintain, and may help improve patient experience by having fewer vascular access sites. In today's environment, reducing exposure to the clinician and the patient is extremely important. I believe it was 'Bard' that coined the phrase 'triple lumen'. It is also called a multi-lumen catheter. The maximum recommended infusion rate is 5 mL/sec for power injection of contrast media. A triple lumen is a 3 lumen catheter with a proximal port (closest to the skin), medial port (between skin and SVC), and distal port or CVP port in the SVC (superior vena cava) or RA (right atrium) of the heart. The catheter is intended to be inserted in the jugular, femoral, or subclavian vein as required. It is indicated for use in attaining short-term (less than 30 days) vascular access for hemodialysis, hemoperfusion, and apheresis treatments. Indicated for acute short-term conditions, nontunneled catheters come with single, double, triple, or quadruple lumens and in multiple sizes (14 to 22 G). Acorn Squash Stuffed with Bread, Cheese, and Bacon. Halve the squash, scoop out the seeds, add a little olive oil and salt and pepper, and roast it until it’s tender and caramelized. To begin simply chop all the veggies, toss them in olive oil, basil, oregano, garlic powder, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Sometimes simple is best like with this classic preparation. I used a variety of fall Autumn veggies that I found at my local fruit market but feel free to add any more if you find any. Roast for 25-30 minutes or until vegetables are tender and starting to caramelize. Drizzle the olive oil mixture over the top use your hands to toss the vegetables around to evenly coat. Spread the vegetables out on the sheet pan in a single layer. Lightly drizzle the squash halves with olive oil - or use a pastry brush to avoid adding too much olive oil. Using a sharp knife, cut the acorn squash in half and place the acorn squash cut sides up on a baking sheet. It features all the beautiful and delicious vegetables Autumn has to offer and is not only tasty but is also packed with lots of nutrition from these super veggies. Mix together the olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper in a small bowl. Line a rimmed sheet pan with tinfoil or parchment paper. This pan full of healthy roasted veggies is the perfect side dish this season. Roasting veggies is not only a super easy and effortless way to make side dishes or full meals, but it also creates flavors and texture like no other way of cooking. Flip the slices and rotate each baking sheet on the racks in the oven. Roast the maple covered squash slices in a 375 oven for 15 minutes. Using a pastry brush, generously brush the slices on both sides with the maple butter mixture. Slice halves into strips about 1/2 inch thick. Slice acorn squash in half (very carefully) and remove stem, seeds, and core. Let the fall colors begin! If you’ve never roasted veggies before, then this is the perfect time to jump right into it. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, olive oil, maple syrup, allspice and kosher salt. Honey-Roasted Squash Directions: Preheat oven to 375F. While the squash is roasting, make the stuffing and potatoes. Add the ginger and nutmeg, stir to combine. Drizzle squash with maple syrup and roast for 15-20 minutes or until fork tender. Add the coconut milk, process until very smooth. Using a hand immersion blender, puree the soup until smooth. Use puréed acorn squash in place of sweet potato or pumpkin for baking pies, breads. Add the roasted acorn squash and 2 cups of vegetable stock to the soup. Acorn squash can also be sliced into thin pieces and roasted, which softens the skin. These roasted vegetables are a must-try this fall and make the perfect side dish all season long! Cover and cook until the carrots are soft and tender, about 10 minutes. Simply, healthy, and easy roasted veggies featuring all of Autumn’s beautiful colors and delicious flavors. Where there are no Playlists on a track, Playlist view (top) displays an empty comp lane, to which Regions can be dragged from the Region List. If you click it, the selection you made will be 'elevated' or 'promoted' to the master Playlist for that track (above) You can comp material that was not originally recorded to Playlists. Make a selection on a comp lane track, and this button will become active. This is the 'elevate' or, to give it its official title, 'Copy Selection on the Main Playlist' option, and is at the core of the new comping feature. The other button that appears on each comp lane is an upward‑facing arrow. (This also works on normal tracks and for recording: Shift-R puts the track with the cursor on into Record Ready mode, Shift-M will mute the track, and with HD rigs Shift-I will put that track into Input Monitor mode.) The Edit window's Show/Hide list displays the Playlists on a track inset below the track itself, so you can show or hide the complete set by selecting the track, but also show and hide individual comp lanes Regions comped to the master Playlist retain the colour of their source comp lane so you can see where they came from.Įach comp lane has a solo button that enables you to hear that take (unlike a normal solo button, this button leaves all the other tracks in the Session playing you are simply soloing that individual take), or you can place your cursor on a track and use the shortcut Shift-S to achieve the same thing. (You can see which are comp lanes, as they are inset on the Edit window.) As before, all Playlists on a track share the same voice, so you can only listen to one comp lane at a time. When you select this view, Pro Tools will display the most recent Playlist on the main track, and the previous takes on 'sub‑tracks', or as Digidesign call them, 'comp lanes'. You will find a new option in the track display drop‑down menu called Playlist Once you have made a selection within a Region on a comp lane (left), the 'Copy Selection to Main Playlist' button and corresponding shortcut 'promote' it to the master Playlist for that track. The new comping feature in Pro Tools 8 allows us to combine the best of both techniques, because you can now display each Playlist on a track in its own separate lane. This had some advantages, such as not forcing you to mute and unmute individual tracks manually, but had the big disadvantage that you could only see one Playlist at once. The other main technique used by many people is to keep the separate takes as Playlists on a single track, and copy the best bits to a new Playlist on that track to create a comp. I would then cut and paste the best bits onto a 'master' track to create the finished vocal comp. I would record a number of takes and then pull them out onto separate tracks, then route all these tracks to an Aux track so I could audition them all through the same processing chain. The screenshot above shows how I used to comp up a vocal. Many changes have happened to Pro Tools in the meantime, but it's only with the release of Pro Tools 8 that we have new tools dedicated to this function. We explain how it all works.īack in April 2005, I described the two main techniques that Pro Tools editors typically use for 'comping' a vocal or other track from multiple takes ( /sos/apr05/articles/protoolsnotes.htm). One of the major new features in Pro Tools 8 is a system for easily assembling comp tracks from multiple takes. Lindsay won his third Olivier award after he took over the role of Fagin during 1997 in Cameron Mackintosh's London revival of Oliver! at the London Palladium. In 1996, Lindsay played the title role of Becket, the play by Jean Anouilh, opposite Derek Jacobi as King Henry II for which he won another Olivier Award. Both Bleasdale serials were screened by Channel 4, as was the surreal Channel 4 sitcom Nightingales (1990–93), which also featured David Threlfall and James Ellis. Lindsay was also in Bleasdale's Jake's Progress (1995) the tale of a couple played by Lindsay and Julie Walters who were struggling to cope with a 'difficult' child (Barclay Wright). His next role was in the James Scott-directed Strike It Rich (1990) alongside Molly Ringwald and John Gielgud. Lindsay's success on Broadway and in the West End led to a starring role in the film Bert Rigby, You're a Fool (1989), although it was not a commercial success. Lindsay played the role of Bill Snibson in the hugely acclaimed 1984 London revival of Me and My Girl (for which he won an Olivier Award) which subsequently transferred to Broadway, earning Lindsay a Tony Award against competition from performers in Les Misérables on both occasions. He played Edmund in the Granada Television production of King Lear (1983) with Sir Laurence Olivier. Towards the end of the run of Citizen Smith, Lindsay won roles in the BBC Television Shakespeare series, including Lysander in A Midsummer Night's Dream (1981), Fabian in Twelfth Night (1980) and Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing (1984). He came to prominence as the cockney layabout Jakey Smith in the ITV comedy series Get Some In! (1975–1977) and was given the starring role as delusional revolutionary Wolfie Smith in the BBC sitcom Citizen Smith (1977–1980), which raised his profile. Lindsay's early career included roles in British films such as That'll Be The Day (1973), Three for All (1975), and Adventures of a Taxi Driver (1976). After graduation, he worked as a dialect coach for a repertory company in Essex, and then joined a regional theatre group. However, friends at Nottingham Playhouse encouraged him to apply to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), and in 1968, he was accepted there with the aid of a government grant. He was one of three children and his father was a World War II veteran, having been on a minesweeper, one of the first ships to land on D-Day.Īfter leaving Gladstone Boys' School, Lindsay enrolled in the drama department of Clarendon College in Nottingham, intending to become a drama teacher.
